It is important that you follow the application instructions as closely as possible. Any deviation or deletion from these application instructions may have a negative effect on the end results. Be sure to read all instructions and warnings completely before beginning. If you have any questions regarding these procedures or safety issues about HERCULINER, please call our customer service line at 1-(800)-477-5847 between the hours of 8AM and 6PM CST.

CAUTION: BEFORE YOU START! It is very important that this product is applied in a well ventilated area.  It is strongly recommended that gloves be worn while applying HERCULINER.

Important: This kit contains one (1) gallon of  HERCULINER, coating which is sufficient to cover one (1) six-foot truck bed. Eight-foot truck beds will require an additional quart of  HERCULINER.

Other items you will need to complete the job:

· One quart of Xylene, Acetone or MEK Solution for surface preparation only.
· 2" wide masking tape
· Paint roller pan
· Rubber gloves
· Clean up rags

CAUTION: HERCULINER bonds to skin, clothing and metal surfaces quickly and is very difficult to remove once it dries. Be careful to avoid getting any residue on skin, painted surfaces or clothing. Use  Xylene immediately to remove HERCULINER, and wash area with soap and water. See PRECAUTIONS AND WARNING LABELS for further information.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Sweep out the truck bed thoroughly of any large debris.

(1)  Remove Tailgate.
(2)  Clean heavy dirt and grime from truck bed and tailgate. Sweep out large debris and use a household detergent such as TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) and water, if necessary, to thoroughly remove all dirt, including oil spots and petroleum products residue. Make sure to rinse surface well with a clean rag and fresh water.   Allow truck bed and tailgate to dry thoroughly.
(3)  Remove tailgate hardware if it is in an area that you are going to coat.
(4)  Mask off all areas that you wish not to be coated.

Carefully masking areas where you do not want HERCULINER applied is one of the most important aspects of application. Be sure to take your time and rub masking tape down for a good, protective seal. Remember the cleaner your masking job is, the better looking the outcome.

(5)  At the same time, fill drain plugs and latch bolt holes with masking tape.
(6)  Using the scotch pad provided, scuff all paint surfaces where HERCULINER is to be applied, leaving no glossy areas.

Be sure to scuff all painted surfaces where HERCULINER is going to be applied well leaving no glossy areas. This will assure a superior bond between HERCULINER and bed surface.

(7)  Blow out or wipe down truck bed and tailgate, removing all excess sanding dust.
(8)  Wipe down truck bed and tailgate with Xylene if available and rag; otherwise use Acetone or MEK solution (it is recommended to wear rubber gloves while working with any solvents and when applying HERCULINER). IMPORTANT! MAKE SURE YOU ARE WORKING IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA AND HAVE READ ALL CAUTIONARY MEASURES ON XYLENE (Xylol) CONTAINER.
(9)  Allow Xylene, Acetone or MEK to dry completely (about 10 minutes).

Remember to wear rubber gloves while working with HERCULINER and all solvents.

Note:  Please be aware the can lid is very tightly sealed for safe transportation, making it very difficult to open.
(10) Before applying HERCULINER be sure to wear chemical resistant gloves. HERCULINER is extremely difficult to remove from the skin once it has dried.
(11) Stir HERCULINER very well (for best results use an electric drill motor with a paint-mixing attatchment or a metal paint mixer if possible).
(12)  HERCULINER may be thinned 10% with Xylene only if it thickens after opening. DO NOT USE ANOTHER CHEMICAL OTHER THAN XYLENE (XYLOL) FOR THINNING.

Use the 2" brush included to apply HERCULINER to corners and areas where the roller won’t reach. Dab the coating on rather than brushing it on. This will give you a more even surface application. You can later touch up with the brush as well.

(13)  Start by coating seams and corners of truck bed using the 2" brush provided. Dab HERCULINER on rather than brushing it on like paint. Start with a light first coat, being careful not to let HERCULINER clump or run. Coat tailgate areas in the same manner.
(14)  After you have completed sealing the seams and corners, begin to roll HERCULINER on front and side panels of truck bed using the special foam stipple roller and handle provided.
(15)  Next gently roll HERCULINER onto the floor of the truck bed in the same manner.

For best results, STIR HERCULINER THOROUGHLY BEFORE USING AND WHILE YOU ARE WORKING. This keeps the rubber particles suspended and assures even application. Apply a light first coat. This acts as a "primer" for your second coat. Roll as much as the bed surface as possible using the brush for corners and tight spots where a roller can’t fit.

(16)  Coat the tailgate in the same manner. NOTE: In some applications it might be beneficial to dab HERCULINER into the lower parts of the floor and tailgate slats with the paint brush, then roll the HERCULINER onto the top part. Be careful to watch for clumping of rubber particles. (Keep the brush moist with Xylene only during breaks by storing in a small plastic bag or , between coats, etc. Also occasionally stir HERCULINER to keep it from clumping.)
(17) After the first coat has been applied to the truck bed and tailgate, allow HERCULINER to set up (approximately 1-4 hours or when it is no longer tacky - slightly longer for red and gray HERCULINER). Make sure to apply the second coat within 24 hours of the first coat application. Otherwise you will need to clean and scuff the first coat prior to applying the second coat. NOTE: TWO COATS OF HERCULINER ARE REQUIRED FOR ADEQUATE COVERAGE. (FAILURE TO APPLY TWO COMPLETE UNIFORM COATS WILL COMPROMISE THE DURABILITY AND REDUCE THE LONGEVITY OF THE HERCULINER TRUCK BED COATING). Use new roller to apply second coat.
(18) Apply a second coat of HERCULINER to the taped seams just before the first coat of HERCULINER has dried, while the surface is still tacky. This will enable the tape to be removed without tearing. If tape sticks to HERCULINER, run a razor along the taped edge.
(19)  Then repeat the application process for the second coat (steps 13-16).
(20)  Areas can be touched up with a small brush, and unwanted HERCULINER can be removed with Xylene, Acetone, or MEK solution while it is still wet.
(21)  After second coat is dry to the touch, check for any missed spots and touch up.
(22)  Install tailgate and hardware.
(23)  The truck bed will be ready for light use in 10-12 hours.
Note:  HERCULINER is designed, packaged and sold for a one time use.  As soon as the can is opened and HERCULINER is exposed to the moisture in the air, it begins to polymerize or cure.  This makes it difficult to re-seal and re-open the can, and reduces its effectiveness, due to its partial curing.  Once the project is completed, any remaining product should be disposed of properly.

Please dispose of unused HERCULINER, and all materials used during application in a responsible manner.
