The single biggest problem we
have seen with Rovers running in
wet conditions is that the
distributors tend to get
moisture/water inside the cap,
causing miss-fires and poor
running. This can lead to major
problems when you’re in the
middle of no where.
Additionally, the entire Rover
ignition system seems inferior.
Tough starts and small plug gaps
cause low power and poor
response. Everyone who has
started their Rover after riding
the trails understands this.
The solution?
We have recently begun offering
a Hybrid HEI distributor to your
V8 Rover engine. HEI stands for
High Energy Ignition and has
been traditionally used on older
large block V8’s. It has no
point contacts and uses a
magnetic pickup to sense
timing. The HEI is waterproof.
Keyword: WATERPROOF. Our Hybrid
HEI’s are 100% serviceable and
re-buildable with Chevy parts
found at any local auto
supplier. Unlike the Lucas
models which are extremely
difficult to rebuild and very
expensive to replace (generally
costing between $570-740).
Each unit includes a new pickup
coil, ignition module, vacuum
advance unit, capacitor and
wires, ignition coil and coil
cover, Accel Performance dizzy
cap and rotor, and a new intake
hex head bolt [Required to fit
the larger HEI unit]
There are several benefits to
fitting an HEI along with what
we mentioned above – an ignition
module and 50,000V coil is built
into the unit, eliminating the
need for your existing coil and
troublesome and expensive Rover
ignition module. Lastly, there
are only two wires to connect: a
12V power wire direct to your
battery, and another that fits
to your tachometer. Not to
mention the previously mentioned
benefits, the HEI assembly also
eliminates the excessive wiring
lay-out of the Rover engine
bay.
