Dear Skid Row,
I just installed the engine skid
plate on my 1989 Jeep Wrangler
4.2. It took about an hour, and
that's with having to replace
the light bulb on my work light
in the middle of the
installation! I found following
the instructions and the
installation were quite easy. I
have many modifications, (ie:
body lift, suspension lift, air
lockers, etc) to the Jeep, but
they did not make the
installation any more difficult.
I did it alone with no problems.
Often, when adding a new part to
the Jeep, I find I have to "rig
it" or make the part fit. The
engine skid plate went on
without a problem. It was nice
to finally purchase a product
that lives up to it's
advertising. This is strictly a
bolt-on product that the average
home garage mechanic can
accomplish in about an hour.
I am impressed by the skid
plates construction, and how
secure the mounting seems to be.
I also installed the Top Prop on
the same day. I found it to be
another good product with quick
(15 minutes) and easy
installation.
Thanks for the fine products.
Sincerely,
Jeff Lynn Fresno, CA
I just finished putting your oil
pan skid plate on my 99 TJ. I am
very impressed with the quality
of all the parts as well as the
design of the plate. The
installation was incredibly
simple, and only took about 25
minutes! What a difference
compared to other company's
products, which usually require
modification just to get it to
fit. Thanks for making such a
great product! Jon

I would be happy to serve as a
customer rererence for your skid
plate. You may recall our
conversation; I installed the
skid plate in no time with
minimal effort while I still had
15 stiches in my right elbow. So
it was mostly a one handed job.
That is telling; an easy
installation. My big test trip
is scheduled for August 10-12 on
the Rubicon. I'll get a few
photos and be happy to give you
feedback. Most likly a strong
reference for it's protection
under stress. Thanks ,Ed.

I recieved my Tellico Tough skid
plate yesterday via UPS, and I
must say that I am very pleased.
The first thing I noticed, was
how thick and heavy it was. It
reminds me of the removable
armour plating on the M3A2
Bradly that I drove while in the
Army. I've seen your
competitor's products, and let
me say they don't even come
close. I installed it on my 97
Wrangler today in less than one
hour, and it looks great. Once
again, I would like to thank you
for putting out such a well made
product.

Thanks for the exceptional
service, I was told to expect
that from you guys. As for the
trail ride this weekend, it'll
do me good to learn how to drive
a stock unlifted Jeep all over
again, without banging the
underside to hell! I was just a
little over anxious to go and
show off the skidplate to
everyone in our Jeep club! Have
a great holiday!
Later Rusty wrote again.....
I've finally got to REALLY test
out your oil pan skid on my 2000
Sahara, out in East Texas. I
actually balanced the entire
weight of the vehicle on
boulders and steep angled hills.
And it's all I can do to scratch
the darned paint on that
skid!.......However, my factory
gas tank skid is already smushed
upwards real bad on one side!
After only a couple trips
off-road! I SOOO counting on you
guys to design a skid that will
completely replace the factory
one, not just cover up that
piece of junk! I'm not going to
trust my gas tank to anyone
else! Hope y'all can come
through for me! Let me know if
you think you will eventually
produce one! Thanks again
guys!!!

We're working on it Rusty.....
Installed my oilpan skid plate
last weekend, love it, fantastic
quality and super easy to
install, do you have any plans
on developing side rails for tjs?
I would love to find some that
take more advantage of the
factory step mounting holes that
are also heavy duty for maximum
rocker protection. thanks

I of course received my skid
plate in good order a few weeks
ago (in fact before my factory
ordered y2k TJ arrived. I
installed it last night in
preparation for a planned first
offroading trip this weekend. It
installed without any problems,
other than me not following
instructions at one point. I am
very pleased with the
engineering and build quality of
your product and have already
recommended it to members of the
jeepsunlimited Wrangler forum.

I received the skid Plates
yesterday afternoon and fitted
mine that evening. What a breeze
!! They are so well designed,
simplicity at it's best ! It all
fitted together perfectly. It
seems everything has been
thought out very carefully, even
the positioning of the bolts
which allowed for plenty of room
to get your tools in. I managed
to fit it (in the dark) without
jacking up the Jeep, in under an
hour. The hardest bit was
getting the original lower
control arm bolt off - it was a
little tight. Apart form that it
was a piece of cake - probably
the easiest and best put
together piece of equipment I
have fitted to my Jeep. Thanks a
lot.

Just dropping you a note on the
installation of the oil pan/tranny
skid plate. Your instructions
are very good !! The engine
mount picture is a little hard
to see but it didn't long to
figure out. Perhaps a before and
after picture in each step would
clarify some newbie confusion ..
like mine. Maybe a positional
arrow showing which is the front
or back of the vehicle would
help. It took about an hour to
install it .. with some help
from my 4 & 6 yr old .. 8-) The
skid plate came neatly packaged.
The powder coating is well done.
The design of the skid plate is
simple but elegant. I'm very
pleased with it !! Thanx.
On to the trails ..

Well, you wanted to know how
it's going. I think this is a
positive thing, but I did manage
to put a "bend" in my plate. I
also toasted the driveshaft as
well, so considering how hard a
driveshaft is and I bent that,
the fact that your plate only
has a slight "bend" in it is a
positive thing. You can check it
out at Hyner. It's a very slight
bend, to the unobserved eye you
might not even see it. When it
happened, I was like, wow, I'm
glad that plate is there. I came
down hard on an oversized
telephone pole, the one at the
bottom of Icky Hill at Paragon.

Just got back from the Rubicon
trail...WOW! The skid plates on
my 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ
Automatic read like a Harlequin
Braille novel. I bent the back
bumper and the rims are thrashed
to hell. Sometimes the "road"
went through two giant boulders
too narrow for the car. I just
climbed over with the front two
tires, then slide down the rock
bars that protect the sides,
then drag the gas tank skid
plate over, then WHAM down onto
the rear bumper. Other times, I
thought I might as well take off
the wheels entirely and have
someone drag me over the rocks,
riding the skid plates...
Amazingly, there is zero body
damage! The rear differential
locker was a real help, and I
needed a winch once to get me
out of a stupid mistake, but far
and away it was the side boulder
bars and the added skid plates
that saved my butt (and the oil
pan and gas tank). If I'd had
even 31" tires instead of 30",
I'd have scraped a LOT less.
My advice: Unless you have
industrial-strength skid plates
over the oil pan and gas tank,
and side boulder bars or rock
rails, don't even think of
trying the Rubicon trail.
Otherwise, enjoy what was to me
the very best offroading I've
ever done!
I want to commend Skid Row
Automotive (http://www.skid-row.com)
for a truly bulletproof oil pan
skid plate. The design is
ingenious and takes advantage of
preexisting holes in the frame,
so installation was a snap.
Unlike some other kits where I
had to redrill or gerryrig, this
one fit as though they'd
pretested it on my own car. I
HIGHLY recommend their
TellicoTough skid plates for any
Jeep that they sell for. I'm
positive this is the last oil
pan skid plate I'll ever need.
I'd especially like to single
out Eric Kootte at Skid-Row for
his enthusiastic product
support. He made sure that I got
the plate in time for the trip
despite my late order, and
followed up to be sure the
installation was easy (it was).
My Jeep and I thank you, Eric!
You can bet I'll be checking
your website for future
upgrades.

Hi Eric... Got the oil pan skid
today... man, it's kick butt
dude!! You've done some
excellent engineering... the
half circle bracket that clamps
on the transfer case skid plate
was pure genius!! All materials
were extreme top notch... right
down to the little powder coated
tab that held the nuts for the
motor mount brace... pure OEM
quality.... It was truly fun to
install!!! It was engineered so
well... the fun didn't last long
cause it went on in just a
couple minutes! Excellent
product man... totally
excellent... I'll be sure to
show everyone in our club... I'm
headed up the rock side of the
trail this weekend! Later man!
Rob Simons, O'Fallon, IL
Hey Eric,
Just wanted to tell you how
pleased I was with (#1) your
extremely fast delivery and (#2)
the ease of installation of the
Top Prop. I had it out of the
box, trimmed and on my wrangler
in 15 minutes. Great product!
One suggestion: Maybe non-metal
fasteners? ...so they don't cut
into the pads. Probably won't be
a problem... Good luck!
