Old Man Emu's attention to detail ensures that every individual coil spring part number is carefully matched to the corresponding shock absorber part numbers to work as a fully integrated system. Fitting a set of OME coil springs in conjunction with a set of Old Man Emu Nitrocharger or LTR shock absorbers will instantly result in improved towing capability, genuine expedition-type load carrying capability, enhanced off road traction, and excellent on-road comfort.

Old Man Emu springs are "handed". That is, there is one driver-side spring and one passenger-side spring per pair. This results in a listing vehicle toward the passenger side. To prevent this, we "match" our springs into two DS or two PS springs per pair.

Variable Or Constant Spring Rates
Depending on the application, OME manufactures coil springs with constant or variable rates.  A variable rate coil spring provides ride comfort when the vehicle is unladen and maintains ride height and control when the vehicle is carrying a load.

Formed On Precision Mandrels
Old Man Emu's use of CNC precision mandrels ensures that all springs produced are identical and consistent with the design specifications.

Shot Peening
Coils are fully shot peened, which reduces stress and greatly enhances spring life.

Fully Scragged & Load Tested
All coils are scragged to eliminate subsequent sagging and load tested to ensure that they meet the required specifications.

Exacting End Configuration Manufacture
Old Man Emu's coil springs are designed to fit correctly on the vehicle by duplicating the original manufacturer's coil end.

Manufacturing Consistency & Quality Control
Stringent quality control procedures for heat treatment (tempering) processes and all phases of manufacture ensure that Old Man Emu springs are made the same way every time.

 

 Front Medium-Duty Springs (761)
 

These medium-duty springs are design to sustain the weight of medium-duty bumper such as a brush guard or non-winch bumper fitted to the front of all Discovery I’s, Range Rover Classics and Defender 90’s.  They will also lift a Discovery Series II but will yield 1” of additional lift over the GB-777 and GB-779 springs.  This spring set is recommended for those customers that WILL NOT fit a heavy duty bumper or winch to the front of their rig.

These medium-duty springs are recommended for vehicles carrying what Old Man Emu deems “medium” loads.  The these fit the rear of all Discovery I & II, Range Rover Classics and Defender 90’s.  However WE ONLY recommend this spring for the rear of a Defender 90 due to the light 220lb. spring rate.  They are also very suitable for front use when a 3” lift is desired.

Nitrocharger Shock Absorbers

Unique triple lip check valve seal offers excellent gas & oil retention. The eccentric sliding intake valve increases   valving response time and reduces operating noise. The balanced, 35mm Teflon banded rebound piston delivers  outstanding valve control resulting in better ride & handling.  The equalized pressure system is delivered through  multi-stage valving which eliminates oil starvation at high speed and greatly reduces heat and pressure build up.  This subsequently produces a more durable shock absorber with improved life expectancy.  A multi-stage  compression valve incorporates a wider range of valve performance resulting in improved vehicle control and ride  suppleness.

* Requires RR-RLLSM and RR-RDCONE for correct use.  Loop to loop shock requires modified mount for rear lower portion.  Longer shock travel will allow spring to unseat during extreme articulation we recommend Rear Drop Cones as they will allow the spring to unseat and reseat safely and quietly.  These are must for extreme travel.

 Shocks


LTR Nitrocharger Shock Absorbers

OME LTR shock absorbers were developed to cater for exceptional requirements such as heavy towing and high speed travel over dirt roads. LTRs employ an independent canister that allows more oil to pass through the shock, while separating it from the gas. As such, LTRs dissipate heat more effectively, and are therefore better suited to extreme conditions where regular shocks are prone to fade.

Old Man Emu's LTR shocks are all hand assembled using only the best quality components, and are completely serviceable and rebuildable. The shock absorbers are valved to ensure excellent ride characteristics in even in the most arduous conditions. 

All LTR shocks can be adjusted to the amount of internal pressure to suit the user's requirements. Off-road racers can inject a greater amount of nitrogen into the shocks for added damping in extreme conditions. Expeditioners and general off-roaders can inject a lesser amount of air for increased comfort on rough roads.
